Dominican Republic

Thanks to some coordination with fellow lifeguard Martin Hedstrom and the local firefighters near his home in the dominican, we were able to hold a water safety class on the beach in Juan Dolio. The scope of the class was focused primarily on rescuer safety and the “Reach-Throw” portion of lay-response. Students were very handy with knots and line, which is usually on hand when the fire fighters respond to an emergency, and so we passed along some insights about technique and adjusting for currents and wind. Overall, the class was a success and we hope to continue working in the Caribbean.
